Optimising Natural Light & Energy Efficiency – The home needed to make the most of the site’s northern orientation for passive solar benefits while ensuring year-round comfort.
Creating Functional, Flexible Living Spaces – As a family home, the layout had to accommodate busy daily routines, provide ample storage, and offer spaces for both connection and privacy.
Blending Modern Design with a Country Feel – Our clients loved the idea of contemporary architecture but wanted it to feel warm, inviting, and in harmony with its rural surroundings.
The Solution
A Thoughtful, Future-Proof House Design in Regional Victoria
1. Harnessing Natural Light & Energy Efficiency
The home was strategically designed to capture northern light, enhancing warmth in winter and reducing reliance on artificial heating. The expansive double-glazed windows, paired with Silvertop Ash timber framing, allow sunlight to flood the main living areas while offering insulation from the elements.
To further enhance sustainability, we integrated passive solar principles, high-performance insulation, water tanks, and a wood-burning fireplace. The result? A home that remains comfortable and energy-efficient throughout the seasons while reducing energy costs.

The butler’s pantry keeps the kitchen clutter-free, while the custom joinery and built-in storage solutions ensure a place for everything.
For privacy and retreat, the master suite is set apart at the rear of the home, complete with a spacious ensuite and walk-in robe. Meanwhile, the additional bedrooms and shared bathroom are designed with children and guests in mind, providing both comfort and functionality. The separate office/lounge space adds another layer of versatility—perfect as a home office, playroom, or future guest retreat.

The home’s exterior, with its striking peaked rooflines and mixed materials, reflects Steele Studios’ signature modern-country style. Inside, warm tones, polished concrete floors, and natural textures create a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere. From the Messmate timber doors to the elegant kitchen finishes, every detail was carefully chosen to ensure longevity and charm.
